November 2020

This unique online plein air session was designed for artists looking for new creative self-expression. During it, we tested the method of creating intuitive aesthetics – a means to create a picture of authentic self-expression, stepping out of creative stereotypes. In the plein air session, we delved into the changes taking place in the art environment, creative psychology and discoveries in neuroscience, the essence of artistic images, creative stereotypes, and authentic self-expression. We listened to lectures on the new art direction of metamodernism and analyzed the personalities of artists and the connection between their life and work. We also discovered expressions of body feeling and creative state, a new concept of artistic impact and positivity.

The project was funded by the Lithuanian Culture Council.

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

A study about the method of intuitive aesthetics and its influence on the work of artists was presented at scientific conferences in Singapore (2018), Indonesia (2018), and Italy (2019). In January 2020 the study was published in the international scientific journal PEOPLE: International Journal of Social Sciences.

TRAINERS

Leaders:

The plein air session was led by the co-authors of the research on the creative method of intuitive aesthetics:

• Rasa Baltė-Balčiūnienė is the founder of AMRES ART, a creator and manager of authentication programs, and the founder of HAI Institute and Femina Bona.

• Dr. Marina Chekmariova is an art historian and art critic working at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg. Chekmariova specializes in 20th- and 21st-century art. The focus of her scientific and review articles is on 20th-century problems of art and processes of contemporary art. Chekmariova actively participates in international scientific conferences and teaches at the university level.

The following insights of neuroscience important for new creative expression were shared:

• Dr. Nicole Van Hoeck (Germany) is a psychologist and neuroscientist. She explores creative thinking from the point of view of psychology and neuroscience. She conducts her research around the world, and her scientific articles have been published in the top-level scientific journals Frontiers in Human Neuroscience and NeuroImage.

Van Hoeck reveals how science and experience can be used to change everyday habits and take knowledge and creativity to the next level: to give ideas a clear form, to rethink reality and to imagine opportunities for total success.
